Dr Ahmad Ibrahim began his career in 1973 at the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRIM). He conducted research on waste treatment systems for effluents from rubber processing factories. He obtained a PhD in wastewater engineering in 1978 and focused his thesis on the removal of nitrogen from rubber effluents. He also collaborated with scientists at the Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia (PORIM) on waste treatment systems for palm oil mill effluents. In 1985, he pursued post-doctorate studies in Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. He held various positions in different organizations, including Director of Techno-Economics and Technical Advisory Services at PORIM, Director of Market Promotions at the Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council (MPOPC), and Vice-President (Research and Technology) at SIRIM. In 2011, he became CEO of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM). He is currently a Professor of Chemical Engineering at UCSI University Kuala Lumpur and serves as Fraunhofer Senior Advisor for Malaysia. Overall, he has contributed to scientific research and development, S&T policies for Malaysia, global marketing of palm oil, and public awareness of S&T.
